Tulsa, OK – TULSA, Okla. (AP) A Republican in the Oklahoma House has filed a bill that would apply the standards of the military's former "don't ask, don't tell" policy to the Oklahoma National Guard.
Rep. Mike Reynolds of Oklahoma City said Monday the state can set standards for the National Guard and his bill would roll back to the national policy that ended Sept. 20.
A similar bill died in committee when it was introduced in Virginia last year.
The Tulsa World reports that an Oklahoma National Guard spokesman said the guard would have no comment on the bill. The director of Tulsa-based Oklahomans for Equality says his group opposes the bill and will work to have it defeated.
The "don't ask, don't tell" policy had been in force since 1993.
