DOC Cuts Impact Training

By Associated Press

Oklahoma City, OK – Prison job training programs closed due to cuts

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Prison-based programs that train inmates for jobs in various areas are being closed because of statewide budget cuts.

The state Department of Career and Technology Education is shutting down four of the programs that provide training in areas such as construction, transportation and manufacturing.

The programs called Skills Centers being cut are at state prisons in Enid, Alva, Stringtown and Granite. Officials say 11 employees will be laid off and about 200 inmates will be affected.

CareerTech officials say the programs will continue at nine other prisons in the state.
