Discussion With Juvenile Center Contractor Delayed

Youth Services of Tulsa

There were no answers this week for Tulsa city councilors asking why Youth Services Tulsa is leaving the Community Intervention Center.

Councilors invited representatives of youth services to discuss why they aren’t renewing their contract to run the 24-hour juvenile booking and referral center. No one was able to attend.

Councilor Phil Lakin said the city is running out of time.

"We have to make a decision as to how much we're going to put in during our budget committee meeting," Lakin said. "If we're going to talk to them, I think it'd be better to put them on budget committee rather than put them on public works — at the top of the agenda."

The budget committee meeting should be Thursday, the same day the council hopes to approve next year's city budget.

Youth Services Tulsa has said city and state funding cuts played a role in their decision not to renew their contract. Right now, Tulsa has budgeted $280,000 for youth services to run the Community Intervention Center.
