Democratic Leader Asks Governor for Special Session

Mayes County-Facebook

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Democratic leader in the Oklahoma House is joining a growing chorus of state legislators asking Governor Mary Fallin to call a special session to address county roads and bridges damaged or destroyed by heavy flooding.

Representative Scott Inman said Thursday he wants the Legislature to access as much as $175 million from the state's Rainy Day Fund to help county commissioners pay for extensive damage that resulted from record-breaking rainfall this month.

The governor has already asked the Department of Transportation to expedite the bidding process for county road work, but Inman says that won't do much good without money to pay for the improvements.

The Rainy Day Fund has a current balance of about $535 million. Legislators used about $150 million to help balance the state budget.
