Locust Grove, OK – 1 killed as severe storms move across Oklahoma
LOCUST GROVE, Okla. (AP) The National Weather Service says a storm responsible for the death of a woman in a mobile home in northeast Oklahoma was a tornado.
Meteorologist Joe Sellers said Wednesday that the storm that moved through Mayes County has a preliminary rating of EF-2, which has winds between 111 and 135 mph.
The weather service issued severe thunderstorm warnings for the county between 3:20 a.m. and 4 a.m., but Sellers said no tornado warning was issued.
Emergency Management Director Johnny Janzen didn't release the name of the victim, but family members say it was 82-year-old Beverly Reed.
The tornado was part of a line of storms that hit early Wednesday and left damage to homes and businesses.
Three people in Hughes County were hurt when their mobile home was blown over.
