Deadline Near for Tornado Unemployment

File photo

EL RENO, Okla. (AP) — Canadian County workers looking for disaster unemployment assistance following recent severe weather in the area don't have much longer to apply.

Workers and self-employed people in the county who lost work or earnings due to severe storms and tornadoes in May and June have until July 12th to apply for disaster unemployment insurance. The insurance is available to those who don't qualify for regular state unemployment benefits.

To be eligible, people must have worked in the disaster area and no longer have a job because of the disaster. They can also apply if a disaster-related injury or illness has prevented them from working.
