DA Declines Child Abuse Charge Against Teacher

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (AP) — The Washington County district attorney has declined to file charges against a Bartlesville elementary school teacher who was arrested on a child abuse complaint.

Police arrested 31-year-old Katie Elizabeth VanZant Tuesday after daycare workers reported bruising on the buttocks of a 3-year-old who had been in VanZant's care.

District Attorney Kevin Buchanan told the Bartlesville Examiner-Enterprise on Friday that "the situation has been handled satisfactorily by other means." Buchanan declined to elaborate.

VanZant is a teacher in the gifted and talented program at Bartlesville's Hoover Elementary School. School officials say VanZant is not currently teaching — however she is still listed on the district's website as a teacher at Hoover
