Crisis Center Dedicated

MIAMI, Okla. (AP) — A community crisis center in Miami has been dedicated in honor of an Oklahoma woman gunned down in Iraq. The Miami News-Record reports (http://is.gd/Q4s43l ) the Community Crisis Center was dedicated Saturday in honor of Fern Holland. Holland was a Tulsa attorney who graduated from Miami High School. The 33-year-old was killed in 2004 by Iraqi gunmen near Hillah, about 35 miles south of Baghdad. Holland was working as a civilian contractor for the U.S. Department of Defense. She also took depositions from torture victims and their families as part of her work in Iraq. The center provides shelter and help to victims of domestic and sexual violence and their children, along with victims of stalking.
