OKMULGEE, Okla. (AP) The Muscogee Creek Nation's principal chief says a branch of the tribe seeking to build a casino in a Tulsa suburb hasn't followed proper procedures that would allow for gaming on that site.
At a news conference on Monday, Chief George Tiger said his tribe hasn't received an application from the Kialegee Tribal Town for a Bureau of Indian Affairs business lease or a request to conduct gaming operations.
The Kialegee Tribal Town already has broken ground on a site in Broken Arrow owned by two sisters who are trying to transfer their allotment to the tribe. Tiger says the land falls under Creek jurisdiction.
Residents oppose the casino, saying it will be too close to a school and a church.
Kialegee officials say it will help the local economy.
