Crane Fished from Lake
Ponca City, OK – Army Corps, Navy recover equipment from Okla. lake
PONCA CITY, Okla. (AP) The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says a team has recovered a crane and other equipment that fell off a dam into Kaw Lake in January.
Officials said Monday a team of U.S. Navy divers from Washington state did a reconnaissance dive April 25 to determine the location of the equipment.
For the past two weeks, the divers attached inflatable bags to the crane and other equipment to raise them to the lake's surface and then used cables to pull them to shore.
Army Corps of Engineers officials say the crane tipped over as it was lifting a piece of equipment on the top of the dam about Jan. 6.
The crane's operator climbed out of the cab before the equipment went into the water and wasn't hurt.
