A conversation with the well-traveled opera baritone Robert "Robb" Hyman.
Tulsa, Oklahoma – Tulsa Opera will soon stage Humperdinck's great Hansel & Gretel (on February 21st and 27th at 7:30pm, and on March 1st at 2:30pm, with all shows happening at the Tulsa PAC's Chapman Music Hall). Our guest today is the renowned baritone Robert "Robb" Hyman, who plays the role of the Father in this production. Hyman has been singing in opera houses all over Europe (and China, for that matter) for approximately the last two decades --- mainly he's been doing Verdi and other Italian works, but his credits and abilities as a performer range widely --- and this appearance with Tulsa Opera marks his first American engagement since the early 1990s. Hyman reflects on the role at hand on our show today, and on his many and various travels throughout the opera world. And as he tells our host Rich Fisher, he first caught the singing bug, so to speak, while belting out Hansel & Gretel back in the second grade! Also on today's edition of StudioTulsa, we have a commentary from Ian Shoales that asks the oh-so-timely question, "Just how crucial is a Facebook account?"
