Tulsa, Oklahoma – Today on ST, we chat with the Tulsa-based poet and performance artist Deborah Hunter. On Saturday night (the 25th) at 8pm --- at the Tulsa PAC; as part of the 2011 SummerStage Festival --- Hunter will present her spoken-word-meets-dramatic-monologue show called "Amazons, Gypsies, and Wandering Minstrels." In this piece, Hunter portrays six different characters --- women struggling to survive mental illness, homelessness, addiction, and abuse. As a sort of prelude or opening act for this event, Hunter will also present her work known as "Bayou Stories," which is a presentation that brings to life an African-American elder from the Deep South telling tales of life, love, and loss in the days before integration. Also on today's show, our commentator Mark Darrah offers a personal anecdote that makes an argument for living a "participatory life."
