Tulsa, Oklahoma – On today's StudioTulsa, we speak with Owen M. Fiss, the celebrated constitutional law expert and Sterling Professor of Law at Yale Law School. Tonight, in a free-to-the-public presentation beginning at 7:30pm, Fiss will deliver the 13th annual John W. Hager Distinguished Lecture at The University of Tulsa College of Law (in John Rogers Hall; 3120 E. 4th Street). His lecture is entitled "The War against Terrorism and the Rule of Law." Fiss teaches procedure, legal theory, and constitutional law at Yale and directs Yale Law School programs in both Latin America and the Middle East. He is also the author of "Troubled Beginnings of the Modern State," "Liberalism Divided," "The Irony of Free Speech," "A Community of Equals," and "The Law as It Could Be." Educated at Dartmouth, Oxford, and Harvard, Fiss clerked for Thurgood Marshall on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and later for Justice William J. Brennan, Jr. He also served in the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. On our program today, Fiss and host Rich Fisher discuss current developments, constitutional considerations, and would-be congressional investigations regarding allegations of torture during the administration of George W. Bush.
