ConocoPhillips to Lay Off Bartlesville Employees

More layoffs are coming as gas and oil prices remain low, this time for one of the world’s biggest energy companies.

ConocoPhillips is trimming its Bartlesville workforce. It employs more than 2,000 people in the city that used to be its headquarters.

The layoffs are happening nationwide in anticipation of an extended period of low energy prices. The company is the latest with northeastern Oklahoma ties to announce layoffs, joining Baker Hughes and Helmerich and Payne, among others.

While no numbers have been released, a company spokesman based in Bartlesville said fewer than 4 percent of employees will be affected. He also said the company's commitment to the city hasn't changed.

ConocoPhillips reported a fourth-quarter loss of $39 million.
