Google Street View

DURANT, Okla. (AP) — Plans have been announced for construction of a steel mill in southern Oklahoma.

Irving, Texas-based Commercial Metals Company, Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin and officials in Durant announced Monday that CMC will build a micro mill in Durant. The mill will produce steel products and is expected to open during the fall of 2017 and create about 300 jobs.

CMC chairman, president and CEO Joe Alvarado said the location in Durant allows the company to serve its market in North Texas and expand into Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Arkansas and Missouri.

The mill will be the company's second micro mill, with the first opening in Mesa, Arizona, in 2009.
