Community! on Performance Oklahoma
Edition 1 at 8:00 pm
Performance Oklahoma launched the interview phase of the Community series with a visit to Oklahoma Christian University to meet conductor John Fletcher and several members of the Oklahoma Community Orchestra who celebrate their 30th anniversary year this season.
The Oklahoma Community Orchestra was founded in 1984 through a desire to promote the performing arts, provide quality performances of symphonic literature at a nominal charge to community audiences and exercise and improve the artistic skills of those performing in the orchestra. In this program, we'll learn about the orchestra from its members and conductor John Fletcher and hear performances from the Oklahoma Community Orchestra's Young Artist Competition concert held this past April featuring Young Artist winners violinist Emily Bishop and pianist Zhander P'ng and works by Georges Bizet, Camille Saint-Saëns and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
Listen here to a preview sample of Edition 1, airing on Saturday evening, July 5th at 8pm on Classical 88.7-1.
Edition 2 at 9:00 pm
Performance Oklahoma also took a short trip across campus to visit the University of Central Oklahoma's Music School in the College of Fine Arts and Design! Conductor Karl Nelson and several members of the Edmond Community Chorale talked about their passion for music, singing and the fellowship of this ensemble who celebrate 25 years of choral music.
The Edmond Community Chorale was created in 1988 to provide high quality musical experiences for singers in Edmond and the greater metropolitan area. The ensemble is dedicated to the vocal health of all of its singers young and old and membership is open to any singer who loves choral music and has the ability to read music and match pitch. In this program, we'll find out more about the Chorale from the Artistic Director Karl Nelson and ECC members and hear performances from three programs offered in recent seasons featuring works by Maurice Duruflé, Johannes Brahms and Duke Ellington joined by guest baritone Kevin Eckard, bass Troy Anthony Small and UCO choral, orchestral and jazz ensembles.
