Community Medicine Collaboration between OU-Tulsa and The University of Tulsa
Tulsa, Oklahoma – Last week, OU-Tulsa and the University of Tulsa announced plans to collaborate on an expanded School of Community Medicine. This school will be committed to educating and training doctors who plan to dedicate at least part of their practice to treating patients in underserved areas --- both urban and rural --- throughout Oklahoma. There's an acute shortage of doctors throughout the nation, and that shortage is only expected to worsen as the Baby Boomers get older. Moreover, Oklahoma now resides at the very bottom of the nationwide ranking of doctors per capita. On this edition of our program, we speak with Dr. Gerard Clancy, president of OU-Tulsa, about the critical shortage of doctors in our state, and about this newly announced collaboration with the University of Tulsa, which will hopefully combat that shortage.
