Community Leaders Get an Update on I-44 in Tulsa

KWGS News

Progress is being made on the final phase of the widening of I-44 in Tulsa.

Business, government, and transportation leaders gather for a first-hand glimpse of the widening of Interstate 44 at Lewis Avenue. It is the final phase of a 400-million dollar project began in 2009 to widen I-44 from Riverside to Yale. U-S Senator Jim Inhofe has been instrumental in getting federal dollars to help fund the work. He says he’s only a big spender in two areas, national defense and infrastructure…that you need roads and nobody else is going to build them, so he supports increased transportation dollars.

The I-44 project, which includes replacement of the Lewis Avenue bridge, is scheduled for completion in early 2014.
