Come Saturday Night, All This Jazz Plays the Fool (in Anticipation of April Fools' Day)

Tune in for the next edition of All This Jazz, beginning at 10pm on Saturday the 29th, right here on Public Radio 89.5. We'll also offer, as ever, a 7pm re-airing of ATJ on Sunday the 30th on Jazz 89.5-2 --- which is our station's all-jazz HD Radio channel. And please note that you can learn more about our show, and can always get the latest playlist information, at this link.

Each  week, we happily, faithfully, and variously present modern jazz, both recent and classic...from Louis Armstrong to Joe Zawinul, from Geri Allen to Denny Zeitlin. And the second half of our two-hour program always carries a theme.

Next time around, theme-wise --- with April Fools' Day arriving on Tuesday the 1st --- we'll dig several "fool tunes" --- some of which also happen to be top-shelf jazz standards, such as "Fools Rush In," "My Foolish Heart," and "What Kind of Fool Am I?" We'll also hear, in the first half of our show, recently released, rather cutting-edge jazz music from the likes of Ambrose Akinmusire and Dayna Stephens (pictured here).

And further, we'll go back to the 1980s to hear Kronos Quartet playing the music of Thelonious Monk --- since this legendary string quartet, based in San Francisco and known worldwide for applying their classical chops to a broad range of musical styles and genres, recently marked their 40th anniversary (as was noted in a terrific profile that aired the other day on NPR's Morning Edition).

Scott became this radio station's Operations Director in the summer of 2023; he also hosts and programs All This Jazz, which airs every Saturday night on Public Radio 89.5-1 from 9pm till midnight.
