Tulsa, Oklahoma – Today, we revisit an interview from September of last year, when we spoke to Scott Perkins, a curator at the Price Tower Arts Center in Bartlesville. Perkins tells us about an interesting Price Tower exhibit --- which will close on Sunday the 9th --- called "William Schickel: Spirit Made Manifest." This show traces the prolific and varied career of Schickel (1919-2009), an artist who seems to have been equally inspired by mid-20th-century modernism (in all its forms) as well as his own (quite profound) religious faith. As Perkins explains, Schickel created outstanding works of painting, drawing, printmaking, stained glass, furniture design, and sculpture --- and he's probably best known for his architectural work in conjunction with both sacred and secular spaces. Also on today's program, a bittersweet commentary from Barry Friedman about visiting aging relatives in South Florida (or, if you prefer, "heaven's waiting room.")
