Closing Soon at Philbrook: "American Streamlined Design: The World of Tomorrow"

Tulsa, Oklahoma – On today's program, we're discussing an interesting and richly varied exhibit at the Philbrook Museum of Art in Tulsa, "American Streamlined Design: The World of Tomorrow," which will be on view through this coming Sunday, May 15th. As a form of decorative and industrial design that pervaded this country's landscape --- as well as its marketplace, its media, and its imagination --- throughout the 1930s and '40s, the "streamlined" look was one of speed, aerodynamic sleekness, modernity, and futurism. It was --- and it remains today --- a popular style with a top-to-bottom emphasis on clean, propulsive lines. Our guest on today's program is Chris Kallenberger, director of exhibitions and programs for Philbrook, who (in a discussion that we first aired back in February) says that this far-ranging exhibit features more than 180 objects.
