City Councilors Seek Details on Available B.C. Franklin Funding

KWGS News

Tulsa city councilors asked for more details today about funding for projects at B.C. Franklin Park.

After a community meeting, it was rumored up to $2.5 million should be available. Parks Director Lucy Dolman said that's not the case.

"Well, we had $470,000, plus we ended up getting $330,000 from the Graham Trust for a total of $800,000," Dolman said.

The $470,000 comes from sales tax revenue going back to 2001. The money was allocated for projects that were never completed.

Community members aren't satisfied with what's available, though.

Dolman told city councilors $48,000 is already committed to a design for a splash pad many say they don't want. Joi McCondichie has been involved in the park's planning at the community level. She said residents are looking for more than amenities.

"An amenity is something that goes along with a house, something that adds value," McCondichie said. "If you buy a car and it has a sound system or something, those are amenities. We don't want just amenities. We want a car. We want the building."

Neither a rec center nor a pool have been mentioned as possibilities with the funding available.
