Child Found Dead After Standoff

KWGS News

TULSA, Okla. (AP) — A 5-year-old boy was found dead in a Tulsa apartment where his father was during a 17-hour standoff with police.

Sgt. Shane Tuell says the standoff began about 5:30 p.m. Thursday at River Chase Apartments in south Tulsa and ended about 10:30 a.m. Friday when Bryon Creech walked out of the apartment and surrendered.

Tuell says officers then entered the apartment and found the boy dead. He said it wasn't immediately known how the boy died.

Tuell says Creech and his wife were going through a "bitter divorce" and that Creech took his son to the apartment. The woman then left and called police to report that Creech violated a protective order by going to her apartment.

Tuell said negotiators believed the child was unharmed until he was found dead.
