On today's show, we present a chat with the charming, delightful, and highly accomplished young concert pianist, Petronel Malan, whose debut CD, "Transfigured Bach: The Complete Bach Transcriptions of Bartok, Lipatti, and Friedman," was nominated for three Grammy Awards in 2004. (She's made three additional CDs of "transfigured" music since then.) Malan will perform as a guest artist with Tulsa Camerata on Thursday night (the 26th) at 7pm in Emerson Hall at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa. Equally dedicated to education and performance, Tulsa Camerata is a well-respected chamber music ensemble formed here in our city in 2010, and Malan has actually played with this collective once before. On the program for Thursday night's concert, which carries the title of "Darkness & Light," are works by Janáček (Mládí [“Youth”] for Wind Sextet), Beethoven (String Quintet in C minor, Op. 104), and Dohnányi (Sextet in C major, Op. 37). Malan will play on the wonderfully tuneful and accessible (yet rather non-standard) Dohnányi piece. You can learn more about Tulsa Camerata here.
