GLENPOOL, Okla. (AP) Police in Glenpool say a man who is charged with the beating death of a toddler was trying to potty train the 22-month-old to save money on diapers.
The Tulsa World reported Sunday that 28-year-old David Eugene Bridgman is charged with first-degree murder and injury to a minor.
Glenpool Police Detective Tracey Powell says Bridgeman threw his niece, Adriana Kayla Hernandez, around her bedroom and to the floor several times.
Police responded Wednesday to a call that the baby wasn't breathing.
A woman at the residence, 21-year-old Paula Najar, is charged with child neglect and is free on bond. Bridgeman is being held in the Tulsa jail without bond.
Powell says Bridgeman said at a court hearing Friday he didn't want an attorney and takes responsibility for his actions.
