Oklahoma City, OK – Oklahoma Capitol may end free use by groups

(Information in the following story is from: The Oklahoman, http://www.newsok.com . Not for use online in Oklahoma City market.)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The custom of using the Oklahoma Capitol for weddings and other events for no charge may come to an end.

The Oklahoman reports that the state Capitol Preservation Commission agreed last week to consider requiring a security deposit and perhaps charging a fee to pay for a security guard to monitor events.

Officials say a brass rail in front of an historic portrait was destroyed recently, apparently during a wedding.

Capitol security officers are stationed at the west entrance, but they can't leave their posts to check on events in other parts of the building.

People can reserve parts of the Capitol at no charge for after-hours private events Monday through Saturday.
