Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. House approves changes at ME's office

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The Oklahoma House has approved a bill that makes several changes to the state medical examiner's office.

The bill approved late Thursday would authorize the agency to move to a new facility near the University of Central Oklahoma's Forensic Science Institute in Edmond.

It also specifies the duties of the chief administrative officer of the agency and modifies the membership of its governing board.

The agency has come under fire recently, with a March review of the state auditor's office uncovering overspending and mismanagement. The agency's accreditation from the National Association of Medical Examiners was revoked last year due to inadequate staffing levels and outdated facilities and equipment.

State lawmakers also boosted the agency's funding for the upcoming fiscal year.
