OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) An Oklahoma County judge appointed to the state Supreme Court says she'll wait until after a legal challenge is settled before taking her oath of office.
Former Gov. Brad Henry appointed Noma Gurich to the Supreme Court three days before his term expired on Jan. 10. He selected Gurich from three candidates submitted by the Judicial Nominating Commission.
The constitutionality of that commission's makeup has been challenged in a lawsuit filed by an Oklahoma City attorney. State Sen. Clark Jolley, R-Edmond, says in a challenge filed with the lawsuit that the commission should be made up following the guidelines of a state question approved by voters in November.
Gurich tells The Oklahoman she's not making any plans to take the oath until the Supreme Court rules on the lawsuit.
