Tushka, OK – FEMA closing assistance centers in SE Oklahoma

TUSHKA, Okla. (AP) The Federal Emergency Management Agency says residents whose homes and businesses were damaged by the deadly tornado that ripped through Atoka County last month have until Monday to visit the Disaster Recovery Center in Tushka.

FEMA officials say the Disaster Recovery Center will close at noon on Monday. Anyone who still needs assistance will be helped by the Small Business Administration, which is opening a Disaster Loan Outreach Center in the same location at the Tushka Town Hall.

An EF-3 tornado with winds of 136 to 165 mph slammed into Atoka County April 14, leaving major damage in the town of about 350 and killing two.

Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management Director Albert Ashwood also says renters who lost their homes or personal property are eligible for assistance.
