The Caring Van is Making Stops to Offer Free Immunizations

KWGS

The Oklahoma Caring Foundation is making its August rounds. The foundation teamed up with other organizations to offer both school and state required immunizations free of charge.

The foundation's Tin Pyeatt says the offer stands for all ages up to 18 years old.

"We offer anything that's required for school. In addition we offer a few vaccines that aren't required, but just however recommended by the state, such as the bacterial meningitis shot. That's a disease that takes over your body fairly quickly."

The foundation's Caring Van travels all over eastern Oklahoma. Pyeatt says it's first come, first serve.

"We pretty much just try to get out in the community...where, you know, even some people can't get to the Health Department or maybe they don't have vehicles, they can walk their children up to get their immunizations and just make it so much more convenient. It really helps our immunization rates in the state of Oklahoma go up, where we used to be really low"

She says they know transportation and timing plays a large part for parents being able to get out.

The Caring Van will be set up at various Reasor's locations throughout August.
