Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. House speaker shuffles leadership team

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) With one of his top lieutenants resigning to head a state agency, House Speaker Kris Steele is shuffling his leadership team.

Steele announced Friday he has named Rep. Dale DeWitt to replace outgoing Rep. Dan Sullivan as the next majority floor leader in the Oklahoma House. Sullivan announced last month he was resigning his House seat to take a position as director of the Grand River Dam Authority.

The floor leader is a powerful official in the House who is responsible for assigning bills to committees, scheduling bills for a hearing on the floor and overseeing operations on the floor during the session.

Also on Friday, Steele said Tulsa Republican Rep. Ron Peters will replace Rep. John Trebilcock as chairman of the House Committee on Energy and Utility Regulation.
