OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma's Republican governor and the Democratic candidate running against her are sparring over pay raises given to state agency directors.
Gov. Mary Fallin bumped annual salaries by at least $50,000 for two state agency directors. They were for Oklahoma's secretary of state and the director of the state Office of Management and Enterprise Services.
Both raises were bigger than raises approved by state boards and commissions for 48 others, 30 of whom received an annual pay raise of at least $10,000.
Democratic gubernatorial candidate Joe Dorman called Fallin a "hypocrite" because she's expressed skepticism about whether those 48 pay raises were needed.
Fallin said in a news release some of those raises had merit, but she wondered if the 48 directors needed to have raises at a time when there are other needs at their departments.
