C-SPAN Stops in Tulsa for Cities Tour

You may see some special guests around Tulsa over the next few days. Public affairs network C-SPAN is in town.

"The C-SPAN Cities Tour looks to turn a spotlight on unique cities that otherwise may not be featured on our networks," said producer Ashley Hill. "Now, how do we do that? We embed ourselves in a city for a week at a time, and we produce programming that highlights that city's history and local literary scene."

The network’s production team will be driving around in branded local content vehicles to interview historians, authors and civic leaders.

One photographer will focus on historical events, sites and people, including social issues championed by Woody Guthrie.

"He'll tell the story of the Greenwood neighborhood, once known as 'Black Wall Street', and of the 1921 race riots," Hill said. "He's also going to take a look at the city's Native American history through the eyes of the Perryman family."

Another photographer will focus on the local literary scene, interviewing local authors such as Michael Wallace and Najwa Raouda.

"While in Tulsa, she'll also interview my new friend, Teresa Miller, of the Oklahoma Center for Poets and Writers, about their exhibit, 'Oklahoma Writers — A Literary Tableau'."

The programs will air April 4–5 on the network’s Book TV and American History TV channels.
