Budget Cuts Ahead
By Associated Press
Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. fire marshal says cuts could affect cases
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma's fire marshal says budget cuts have led to cutbacks that could affect homicide cases and arson investigations.
Fire Marshal Robert Doke says the agency may need up to 72 hours to respond to a suspicious fire or arson that results in a fatality. Until last week an investigator would respond to such fires within 48 hours.
Doke says his administrative staff has volunteered to take unpaid furlough days in an effort to get to the end of the fiscal year without cutting staff. He says the agency currently has 27 employees seven fewer than when fully staffed.
