MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) — A Florida man arrested after a nationwide search for the "Bucket List Bandit" has been ordered held in an Oklahoma jail.

Michael Brewster appeared before a federal magistrate in Muskogee on Friday on a robbery charge filed in Pennsylvania.

The FBI says a man dubbed the Bucket List Bandit hit 10 banks in nine states, and told some tellers he had only a few months to live.

Prosecutors said Friday they didn't know if the 54-year-old's story was true, and a public defender wouldn't comment. Brewster did cough a couple of times during the brief court hearing in Muskogee.

The FBI said the bandit hit banks in Colorado, Arizona, Idaho, Utah, North Carolina, Tennessee, Illinois, Missouri and Pennsylvania.
