Celebrating eleven seasons of performances, the Brightmusic Society of Oklahoma presented its third pair of concerts this past January; the first on Monday, January 20th at All Soul’s Episcopal Church and the second on Tuesday, January 21st at St Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral in Oklahoma City. The program, entitled Shanties, Songs and Serenades, designed to spotlight chamber music for wind quintet and winds with piano featured works by Malcolm Arnold, David Maslanka, György Ligeti, Jean Françaix and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Guest pianist Alex McDonald joined Society musicians: flutist Parthena Owens, oboist Lisa Harvey-Reed, clarinetist Chad Burrow, bassoonist Carl Rath and hornist Kate Pritchett.
Following the Brightmusic program Performance Oklahoma continues with its showcase of wind chamber music by offering an excerpt from a concert given by Sugar Fish, a newly formed woodwind trio of musicians who teach and perform at the University of Central Oklahoma. Oboist Kadee Bramlett, clarinetist Dawn Marie Lindblade and bassoonist Lori Wooden make up the ensemble and in this performance offer the Trio from 1938 by Georges Auric.
