Bridge Work on Broken Arrow Expressway at Sheridan Begins Monday

Expect new delays next week on your commute if you take the Broken Arrow Expressway.

Starting Monday, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation will narrow the BA to two lanes from three to replace the bridge decks over Sheridan Road.

ODOT Construction Engineer Jennifer Bullard said but temporary delays for improvements are better than the alternative.

"Just this last week, we had a major rainstorm and U.S. 169 decided to fall apart, and that’s what we’re trying to avoid happening in the future," Bullard said.

The $1.6 million bridge project at Sheridan joins work on U.S. 169, U.S. 75, I-244, the BA near downtown and the Inner Dispersal Loop on the list of current highway projects in Tulsa.

"It’s actually kind of a good problem to have. So, right now, we have a lot of construction going on, but that construction will start to wrap up, and those locations will be open and free of construction," Bullard said.

Ramp closures and lane closures on Sheridan under the bridges are likely during the project, which should be done in late July.

Drivers can sign up for daily traffic advisories from ODOT to stay ahead of lane and ramp closures.
