Boynton High Closes

Boynton, OK – Small high school in eastern Oklahoma closes

BOYNTON, Okla. (AP) The small Boynton-Moton School District in eastern Oklahoma has closed its high school.

Superintendent Shelbie Williams says the high school with 17 students closed Tuesday because of state budget cuts. Williams said the district's pre-kindergarten through 8th grade will remain open.

Williams said the district had enough money to begin the school year but is now facing a $200,000 cut in expected funding.

State Superintendent Sandy Garrett says the 17 students can transfer to one of two nearby districts either Midway or Haskell. Garrett says there is no plan to shut down the remainder of the district.
