The Borealis Quartet on Performance Oklahoma

One of the most dynamic and exciting world-class ensembles of its generation, the Borealis String Quartethas received international critical acclaim as an ensemble praised for its fiery performances, passionate style, and refined, musical interpretation. Founded in Vancouver, British Columbia in the fall of 2000 and rapidly establishing a stellar reputation, the Borealis has toured extensively in North America and performed to enthusiastic sold-out audiences in major cities across North America.

The Quartet appeared as the guest ensemble on Sunday, March 10th, presented by Chamber Music in Oklahoma.  The program, given at Christ the King Catholic Church in Oklahoma City featured the Quartet in G Major Op 76, No. 1 by Franz Joseph Haydn, the Eighth Quartet of Dmitri Shostakovich and the Quartet No. 1 in g minor Op 27 by Edvard Grieg.   Listeners will also enjoy commentary from violinist Yuel Yawney who talks about the Quartet's musical approach, the featured works and a special outreach project with Canada's Health Arts Society.  And after that, we'll have a sneak preview of next week's program featuring the Canadian Brass!

Hear this encore program on Saturday, December 28 at 8:00 pm on Classical 88.7-1.
