Bomb in Okfuskee County
Okemah, OK – Possible explosive device found on Okla. gas line
OKEMAH, Okla. (AP) A possible explosive device found on a gas line in Okfuskee County has been rendered harmless and is being removed from the site.
FBI Special Agent Clay Simmonds said FBI and Oklahoma Highway Patrol bomb technicians had recovered the device and determined there were no secondary devices at the scene. Simmonds said the device's contents will be taken to a laboratory and examined to see if it is active or inert.
Simmonds says the sheriff's office called the agency about 11 a.m. after a deputy discovered the possible bomb south of Okemah. Simmonds said the deputy concluded it might be a bomb after seeing a timer attached to it.
Simmonds says the gas line was cleared as a precaution.
Oklahoma Highway 27 was closed, and some nearby homes were evacuated.
