Bixby Public Schools Looks to Community to "Bridge the Gap"

Bixby Public Schools

Bixby Public Schools are reaching out to the community to help alleviate anticipated state budget cuts.

District spokeswoman Dee Harris said they’ve launched a "bridge the gap" campaign and are asking for tax-deductible donations.

"It's a way for community members and parents and friends and families to donate to help bridge the gap of what we believe will be $1.7 million that we will not have for next year," Harris said.

The anticipated $1.7 million cut works out to $202 per student. Donations are tax-deductible and will go toward teacher salaries and classroom materials.

Harris said they’re doing all they can to avoid cutting programs and school days, but they need Oklahoma lawmakers to solve the education funding problem.

"We will be feeling the effects of this for many years to come. Many teachers will be going out of state. It's just — it's a very unfortunate thing," Harris said.

The district is accepting donations online or by check.
