Better Business Bureau Ups Amount it says Brinkley Embezzled

KWGS News

TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Court papers filed by the Better Business Bureau of Tulsa say the amount allegedly embezzled from the agency by a state senator who used to run it has increased from $1 million to more than $1.8 million.

The Tulsa World reports that the BBB uses the higher figure in a response filed in Tulsa County District Court Tuesday to a request by Republican Sen. Rick Brinkley of Owasso to stay a civil suit brought by the BBB in early June.

Brinkley requested the stay because of an ongoing investigation of misappropriated funds from the BBB by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. His attorney argued that the civil suit could endanger his criminal defense.

Re-elected to the Senate last fall without opposition, Brinkley resigned on Friday effective Dec. 31.
