By Associated Press

Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. unemployment rate up slightly to 7 percent

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma's statewide unemployment rate is now at 7 percent.

The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission said Wednesday unemployment in the state in August increased slightly from July, but it's still much lower than the national August unemployment rate of 9.6 percent.

Three eastern Oklahoma counties continue to post the state's highest unemployment rates. State officials say McCurtain County for the third straight month had Oklahoma's highest rate at 11.2 percent in August. Latimer County was next highest at 11 percent, followed by Sequoyah County at 10.7 percent.

The three counties with the lowest August unemployment rates all are in northwestern Oklahoma Beaver County at 3.3 percent, Harper County at 3.5 percent and Roger Mills County at 3.8 percent.
