Audit Points-Up Problems in OKC Schools

File photo

A state audit of an Oklahoma City school district has revealed several financial discrepancies.

The audit says a former maintenance worker for Crooked Oak school district received $59,000 in unauthorized compensation over two years through the use of false time sheets, and a district teacher was accidentally overpaid by $9,000 for an extra-duty assignment.

Auditors also report that superintendent Bradley Richards appears to have violated state law by signing a contract with a vendor to provide a three-day summer instructional football camp without getting prior school board approval or setting aside the funds in a timely manner.

Richards says some mistakes were made, but the audit doesn't tell the whole story.

The Oklahoman reports that the state auditor plans to refer the report to an Oklahoma County district attorney for review for possible criminal charges.
