Norman, OK – Askins takes job with OU Health Sciences Center

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Former Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jari Askins has been named to an administrative position at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.

OU President David Boren announced Wednesday that Askins will serve as associate provost for external relations. She'll work to inform residents about the services provided at medical center in Oklahoma City.

Askins is a former special judge from Duncan and served 12 years in the state House and one term as Oklahoma's lieutenant governor. She won the Democratic nomination for governor and was defeated in November by Republican Mary Fallin. After her defeat, she was one of three finalists for a vacancy on the Oklahoma Supreme Court.

The 57-year-old Askins says she plans to spend "the rest of my career" in this new arena of public service.
