By Associated Press

Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. Commerce Dept. to launch rebate program

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The Oklahoma Department of Commerce is preparing to start a $3.5 million rebate program for residents who buy energy-efficient appliances.

Retailers will begin enrolling in the program on Thursday and consumers who purchase Energy Star appliances beginning on May 8 will be eligible for a rebate.

The rebates range from $50 for small air conditioners to $250 for heat pumps. Washers, refrigerators, furnaces and central air conditioners also are eligible.

The U.S. Department of Energy approved a $3.5 million federal grant in federal stimulus money to fund the program.

Consumers can show up at eligible retailers beginning at 9 a.m. on May 8 and complete a form to qualify for the rebate.
