Another "Holy" Expressway

Oklahoma City, OK – Okla crews working to repair large hole in I-40

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Traffic is being diverted off Interstate 40 near downtown Oklahoma City so Oklahoma Department of Transportation crews can repair a large hole that opened up in the pavement.

Transportation Department spokeswoman Brenda Perry said westbound lanes of the interstate were narrowed to one lane Thursday morning after the 1-feet wide by 6-feet long gap was discovered. Perry says officials are estimating it could be mid-afternoon before the lanes are reopened for traffic.

In the meantime, drivers were urged to use Interstate 240 or Interstate 44.

She says there were no reports of damage to vehicles or injuries.

Perry says that section of I-40, known as the Crosstown Expressway, is aging and crews have to inspect and conduct repairs on the crumbling roadway frequently.
