Allegations against Doctor

By Associated Press

Vinita, OK – Okla doctor accused of over prescribing

VINITA, Okla. (AP) An Oklahoma doctor is accused of prescribing excessive amounts of narcotics to a woman who died from an overdose.

The state attorney general's office alleges Dr. Mickey Ray Tyrrell of Vinita prescribed more than 1,000 Demerol and OxyContin pills to 35-year-old Tammy Dawn Daniels, who died Sept. 5, 2009.

Daniels, who was also from Vinita, was a nursing instructor in Pryor. An autopsy shows she died from drug toxicity from taking too much Demerol.

Tyrrell is set for a hearing before the Oklahoma Medical Board on Nov. 4.

Craig County District Attorney Gene Haynes told The Oklahoman that a criminal investigation is under way but would not reveal details.
