Encore! First winning the 2008 German Music Competition a distinction no pianist had earned for 14 years, Alexander Schimpf traveled the following year to Vienna where he won the International Beethoven Competition, and in 2011 to New York City’s Carnegie Hall and Cleveland where he picked up the Mixon First Prize and the Audience Favorite Award at the Cleveland International Piano Competition.
This past February, Alexander Schimpf made his debut at Armstrong Auditorium in a recital featuring the Sonata in E-flat by Mozart, Book II of Image and L’Isle Joyeuse by Claude Debussy, a selection of preludes from 24 Preludes in Jazz Style by Nikolai Kapustin and Maurice Tombeau’s Le Tombeau de Couperin. Performance Oklahoma features his Armstrong recital as well as commentary from the young pianist as he speaks to host and producer Kimberly Powell about this music and his new life as a touring pianist. And listeners will enjoy an encore from Brightmusic Society of Oklahoma's March 19th program this past season featuring guest violist Miles Hoffman, clarinetist Chad Burrow and pianist Amy I-Lin Cheng in Mozart's Kegelstatt Trio.
Tune in Saturday evening, October 5th at 8pm here on Classical 88.7-1!
