After 20-Years in Prison Woman Cleared in Baby's Death

KWGS News

TULSA, Okla. (AP) — A 20-year-old murder case has been dismissed after Tulsa County prosecutors said they would not retry a woman who spent nearly two decades in prison for the murder of her infant son.

District Judge William Kellough found 37-year-old Michelle Murphy innocent on Friday, 20 years to the day after Murphy's 15-week-old son Travis was found nearly decapitated in Murphy's home.

The Tulsa World reports Murphy was convicted in 1995 of killing her baby, who was found on her kitchen floor in Tulsa on September 12th, 1994. The defense pointed the blame at a teenage neighbor who was not charged and died later that year.

Following a forensic analysis of blood evidence, the prosecutors filed a motion in May requesting that Murphy's murder conviction and no-parole life term be vacated.
